Welcome! This website is designed to help you understand our Read 180 flex group for 4th and 5th grade at Lietz Elementary.
READ 180 Next Generation is an intensive Houghton Mifflin Hartcourt reading program. It uses high interest, informational text to help students recognize and spell words correctly, read with fluency, and comprehend the text. This program is designed to assist students to meet the goal of reading grade-level material independently, with confidence and fluency in all subjects. You will be receiving reports about how your child is doing throughout the year.
This is how we roll!
Read 180 meets Monday through Friday for 90 minutes each day. We spend 20 minutes in each of the rotations listed above, with an additional 10 minutes of closing time together as a whole group. During that 10 minutes we check reading logs and review each child’s individual performance that day.
Along with cool "anchor" videos, we use two high interest workbooks during the small group rotation. One is the RSkills book which focuses on reading, writing and reacting. The other is the Lbook which focuses on literacy and language skills. During small group we practice speaking and writing on topics while incorporating our grammar skills.
Parents, please let me know if you would ever like to see your child's workbooks. I would be happy to share them with you.
